Set: Resterant, Mike and Ellen are sitting down watching a cook work over a large open flame.
Ellen:We have wine, roses, a romantic dinner being cooked by a world class chef, forgetting that this is lunch, you've pulled out all the stops. The suit is a nice touch. So Mike start explaining, why did you leave me without so much a word.
Mike: I know I have so much to apologize for.
Ellen: Was it another girl?
Mike: No! Nothing like that.
Ellen: So what was it?
Mike: You see, I was too embarrassed, I had to drop out of school and I didn't have the heart to tell you I was going. I was a coward.
Ellen: Why did you have to drop out? Your grades were not perfect, but not that bad.
Mike: But not good enough for a scholarship and when my father's company folded I couldn't afford to stay. Even with a full time job I couldn't make enough to pay tuition at the university.
Ellen: But what about a loan?
Mike: I tried but in the last few years before it failed, my father had been funneling most of his salary back into the company. We didn't have the money but on paper he made too much for me to get a loan.
Ellen: So why no phone calls. no e-mail? Where did you go?
Mike: We lost the house, everything had to start over again so I cut all ties. I was a failure in every think I touched. The worst was I failed you, even when things got better latter I was too scared to call, to tell you...
Ellen: To tell me what?
Mike: That I still loved you.
