Ellen: I don.t understand, who is Gwen Trell? Allyson: A greeter, just like you, one of your coworkers. She worked over in 12-13th century Europe. I understand that there are many thousands of greeters now, but what happened to her must be up and down to grapevine. Ellen: I don.t really listen to gossip that much, what happened to her? Allyson: Last week she was greeting a peasant farmer named Dylan from late 13th century. His bio said he was just a peaceful farmer, never hurt anyone his entire life, he was religious but not excessively so. Gwen though he was as harmless as they come, so she started the greeting while her assistant was out ordering lunch. Ellen: And? Allyson: He was very upset after the quickening and grew more agitated when Gwen told him that she couldn.t arrange for him to sit in Gods lap, or schedule a meeting for Jesus, he attacked her. He jumped the desk, yelling she was demon, or a succubus, and started pounding on her. Our IH bodies aren.t wired to sense serious pain and all she felt was minor stings but force, momentum that still works on us. Gwen was knocked down, Dylan outweighed her. She cried out, but no one was in ear shot. Ellen: He couldn.t have really been hurt, I.ve had more than a few residents take a swing at me, there's some pressure perhaps a bit of a jolt but it's meaningless. They stop when they realize it doesn.t affect us. Allyson: Your wrong about that, true we don.t feel the pain, but our brains still sense something wrong and it can trigger panic or a cascade failure. You can even be knocked unconscious as the senses become confused, or overwhelmed by random warning messages. Dylan was angry and scared and didn.t stop. Ellen: She didn.t wing out? Allyson: Oh how I wished she could, but it.s not just an empty rule in a rule book. When a resident is watching, you physically can not wing out. It.s hard coded deep in the design of the IH, the designer.s say they can.t change that with out rebuilding the core, something they.ll never get the budget to do again. Ellen: Just like the reason we can.t wear clothing when we got our wings on? Allyson: Yes, thirty years ago when they locked down the core designs, they didn.t realize the code freeze would be permanent. We.re stuck with it, and so was Gwen, she couldn.t wing out, and couldn.t escape Dylan. It would have saved her. Ellen: Saved her! What can possibly mean by that! Allyson: Gwen couldn.t feel Dylan.s blows but they kept knocking her down, she tried to escape by hiding under her desk. But he followed and she was trapped. That, sigh. that is when he raped her. Ellen: RAPED! What! How can a resident rape a Host! It that even possible! |

This is a strip that one day I MUST redo. There is just too much text and its hard to read. I have some important plot points to get over here, but perhaps I should split it up? The point of course is, the Hosts, and the Residents are still 'physical' and though they are 'numb' to pain, they can have their bodies forced and manipulated by the physical objects and other people. So being hit by a club, will not kill you, or even 'sting' but it will over balance you and your likely to fall down. Another point that I did not dwell on too much above, but does have some importance... The bodies are 'built' to feel pleasure but not pain. It is strangely easy in this fantasy world for a rapist to make a victim feel pleasure but unlike a lot of bad S&M fiction where victims then fall in love with attacker. Here the result is the victim feels worse, betrayed by their attacker and then by their own body. |
